I have a book at home which gives the history of these hymnal writers and what prompted them to write with such power and feeling. As you might have guessed, a large portion of them were steeped in spiritual trials because of a death or an injustice. They wrote with the premise that with their belief in God, everything will be all right. Whether God brought on this trouble they were experiencing or just simply allowed it, in the end with God….all will be well.

Safe in the Arms of Jesus
April 17th, 2011The Saved of God – Predestined to be His
January 5th, 2011There are several passages in the NT scriptures that confuse many about the subject of predestination. Many to this very day have taken the direction of John Calvin of the 16th century. This predestination idea states that no matter the circumstances, individuals are chosen by God and destined for His salvation while many others are not. This all because God has the sovereign authority to save and reject whom He wishes, as they say.
GLOBAL WARMING and OTHER CRAZINESS
February 25th, 2010I had a conversation recently with my son, Brendan, about Global Warming, Ice Ages, and political upheavals. I thought his observations to be insightful and well thought out. Ultimately, it all comes down to our relationship with our Maker. Check it out...

Dad,
Why Me, Lord?
January 28th, 2010Sometimes trials seem to come one right after another. You wake up in the morning and your car won't start. This unfortunate event makes you late for work, your boss chews you out, and your whole day is ruined. You later find out that your car won't be repaired for another week and the bill makes you think you're buying a new one. On top of this you learn that a member of your family has been diagnosed with cancer.

February 1st, 2008THE MORNING DRIVE
When I go to work, I drive country roads, away from the mainstream, that winds among rural homes set upon one acre lots or more and feeding eventually to a frontage road along the major highway which leads to my workplace. Next to my workplace is a truck stop that is frequented by numerous state police and county sheriffs.
